Hapi is a macOS menu bar app that transcribes your voice entirely on your Mac. It uses two local AI engines — one optimized for speed, another for accuracy — and never sends a single byte of audio to any server.

Press a hotkey, speak, and your transcribed text is instantly pasted wherever your cursor is. That's the core experience.

How It Works

Hapi lives in your menu bar. There's no window to manage, no app to switch to. The workflow is simple:

1. Press your hotkey (customizable) to start recording
2. Speak naturally — Hapi captures your microphone audio
3. Release the hotkey — transcription happens instantly on-device
4. Text is auto-pasted wherever your cursor is

The entire loop takes about 2 seconds from the moment you stop speaking.

For meetings, Hapi works differently: it detects when you join a call (Zoom, Teams, Meet, etc.) and automatically starts transcribing with speaker detection.

Two AI Engines, One App

Hapi uses dual transcription engines, each optimized for different scenarios:

• Parakeet (by FluidAudio): Optimized for speed. Real-time streaming transcription with ~2 second latency. Used for voice notes and dictation.
• WhisperKit: Optimized for accuracy. Batch processing with near-perfect word error rates. Used for meeting transcriptions.

The engine selection is automatic — you don't need to configure anything. Voice notes use Parakeet for instant results, meetings use WhisperKit for maximum accuracy.

Both engines run locally on Apple Silicon using the Neural Engine and Metal GPU.
